Research

My research is focus on investigating a novel regenerative treatment aimed at facilitating the repair of lung tissue in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). A pivotal component in this repairing process is using Mesenchymal Stromal/Stem Cells (MSCs), which play a fundamental role in supporting the regeneration of alveolar structures through the differentiation of progenitor cells, primarily mediated by paracrine mechanisms.

The approach to achieving tissue repair involves the innovative application of nanoparticles encapsulated within micrometer-thin hydrogels, referred to as “nano-in-microgels.” This innovative technology offers a mechanism for the targeted delivery of crucial factors to the alveoli, enabling controlled and sustained release over a defined period. Through this intervention, we aim to restore and enhance the regenerative capabilities of lung-resident MSCs, thereby contributing to the reestablishment of functional lung tissue in COPD.
